Welcome to Eccles Mosque

As-Salamu `Alaykum

Those who believe, and do deeds of righteousness, and establish regular prayers and regular charity, will have their reward with their Lord: on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.
— Al Qur'an, Chapter: 2, Verse: 277

MOSQUE members were so sick of the rubbish near their building, they decided to carry out their own clean-up.

The residents spent a day picking up junk around Eccles recreation ground to show the rest of the community how big a problem litter is and to encourage them to start throwing rubbish away properly.

Their actions were sparked by figures released by the UK’s biggest anti-litter campaign, Keep Britain Tidy, revealing that council taxpayers in the UK fork out £500m a year to clean the streets and that thanks to the growing presence of dropped food, the UK rat population now stands at approximately 60 million.

Asia Ishaque, from Eccles Mosque, said: “This clean up will show others that we care about the future of our local environment and that we are not prepared to live, work and play in an area that is blighted by rubbish.

“What is good about working together like this, is it creates a sense of community and for some of our younger volunteers it is their first taste of active citizenship.”
